Solid Waste Management

The District's History Providing Solid Waste Service:

Novato Sanitary District has managed solid waste services in this community in a safe, cost-effective, and fiscally prudent manner since 1978.

Franchise Service Provider is Recology of Sonoma-Marin. In order to provide quality solid waste service to the community, Novato Sanitary District contracts with a private company through a Franchise Agreement. This agreement spells out the quality of service and cost of services to be provided. The current provider is Recology of Sonoma-Marin.

  • Lowest Garbage Rates in County: Since 1978, Novato Sanitary District and its franchise service providers (first Novato Disposal and now Recology) have maintained the lowest garbage rates in Marin County.
  • First Curbside Recycling. In 1982, we established the first curbside recycling program in Marin County.
  • Innovative Services. We are proud to continue to offer the best prices and most innovative service in the County, including household hazardous waste collection, recycling, composting, and others.
