Pollution Prevention Education
The Pollution Prevention Program is designed to prevent pollutants from entering the wastewater collection system and the environment. It is based on the fact that it is more effective, less costly and easier to prevent pollution than to clean it up afterward.
The program is wide ranging and includes many elements:
- Public education for the general public, students and businesses.
- Cooperative programs with many organizations such as Bay Area Clean Water Agencies (BACWA), Bay Area Pollution Prevention Group (BAPPG), and North Bay Watershed Association (NBWA).
- Programs targeted at specific pollutants of concern such as ammonia, copper, mercury, Fats, oils and grease.
- Household Hazardous waste collection, including e waste collection, battery collection, pharmaceutical take back and fluorescent tube collection.
