District Earns Award for Excellence in Financial Reporting (CAFR)
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
June 12, 2015
For the fourth year in a row, Novato Sanitary District has been awarded the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting by the Government Finance Officers Association for its 2013-2014 Comprehensive Annual Financial Report.
The Certificate of Achievement is the highest form of recognition in the area of governmental accounting and financial reporting, and represents a significant accomplishment. The Report was judged by an impartial panel that determined it met the required high standards, including a spirit of full disclosure to clearly communicate its financial story and motivate potential users to read the Report.
District Finance Officer Laura Creamer was especially recognized for her role in preparing the award-winning financial report.
The CAFR provides information on financial investment and income records from all sources over several years. It is more complete than a budget report which primarily focuses on revenue and expenditures for upcoming years.
The goal of the CAFR program and motivation for the District to carry out the extra work is to provide a complete and understandable financial report that allows the Board, staff, and interested members of the public to assess the financial health of the District.
The Government Finance Officers Association is a nonprofit professional association serving approximately 17,500 government finance professionals with offices in Chicago, IL and Washington, D.C.
