Novato Sanitary District President Bill Long and President Pro‐Tem Mike Di Giorgio welcomed US Bureau of Reclamation Commissioner Mike Connor on a tour of their Recycled Water Project. The Bureau of Reclamation provided a Stimulus grant of $1,346,500 toward project construction and has supported the project development as part of the North Bay Water Reuse Project.
“We were honored to welcome Commissioner Conner to the District to view the project and are appreciative that those providing the funding have this level of interest in the individual projects”, said District General Manager Beverly James.
Novato Sanitary District (NSD) is partnering with North Marin Water District (NMWD) to provide recycled water for landscape and turf irrigation. NMWD is also working with Las Gallinas Valley Sanitary District in this effort, and combined, approximately 700 acre‐ft of recycled water per year will be used to offset potable water supplies now used for irrigation in Novato. This drought‐proof source of water will improve water supply reliability in Novato.
“NMWD and NSD have been working on the development of a recycled water program in Novato for the last 20 years and we are thankful for the federal grants and NBWRA that the project has finally come to fruition,” said NMWD General Manager Chris DeGabriele.
Novato Sanitary District, by working collaboratively with North Marin Water District and other North Bay Water Reuse Authority member agencies, has obtained over $2.6 million in federal grant funding to expand recycled water use in Novato.
NBWRA is a regional group consisting of seven public agencies in Napa, Marin and Sonoma Counties, with a goal of expanding the use of recycled water in the region. The Program has obtained federal authorization paving the way to $25 million in grant funding. More information on the North Bay Water Reuse Authority can be found by visiting, www.nbwra.org.
