Novato Sanitary District Earns Award for Excellence in Financial Reporting (CAFR)
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
May 12, 2017
For the sixth year in a row, Novato Sanitary District has been awarded the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting by the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) for its 2015‐2016 Comprehensive Annual Financial Report or CAFR.
The Certificate of Achievement is the highest form of recognition in the area of governmental accounting and financial reporting, and represents a significant accomplishment. The Report was judged by an impartial panel that determined it met the required high standards, including a spirit of full disclosure to clearly communicate its financial story and motivate potential users to read the Report.
Laura Creamer, CPA, the District’s Finance Officer, was recognized for her role in preparing the award‐winning financial report.
The CAFR provides a complete showing of the financial investment and income records from all sources, reflecting what has developed over decades. It is more complete than a budget report that is primarily focused on what revenue is expected to be brought in and spent for the coming year or two.
According to District General Manager Sandeep Karkal, “the goal of the CAFR program is to provide a complete and understandable financial report that allows the Board, staff, and interested members of the public to assess the financial health of the District.”
The Government Finance Officers Association is a nonprofit professional association serving approximately 17,500 government finance professionals with offices in Chicago, IL and Washington, D.C.
